Hosted Gateway/SIP Trunk with OCS

I thought I'd share a cool solution that I'm starting to work on with a SIP trunk partner of ours.  As you probably know, OCS Enterprise Voice integration is generally done with an existing PBX via a media gateway.  Many business are starting to take advatage of hosting SIP trunking to reduce cost and complexity now that these offerings have matured into business-class solutions.  For organizations that are looking for all the collaborative benefits of Microsoft's UC stack without having to also manage a PBX, potential solutions are on the horizon.

In our configuration the Mediation server (in Houston) has a public IP address.  The gateway address in the Mediation server configuration is directed to a SIP Express Router (SER) system at our provider in Denver.  TCP ports 5060 and 60000-64000 are allowed between the Mediation server and the IP address of the SER.  At the provider's location SER receives a SIP trunk from a Broadsoft platform.  The Broadsoft is also configured with an alias SIP domain that matches the internal FQDN of our Mediation server since by default it only accepts outbound calls from tel:+<phone number>@<broadsoft IP>.

Voice quality has been great so far even without QoS and all in all this looks to be a great solution.
